Deadline: Monday

Goldfish // West Wing
On Monday, everyone will be watching Obama's fundraising totals to see if he can compete with the McCain campaign.

This month is the first test of his grassroots fundraising strategy since he declared independence from the broken campaign finance system.

You can help build the organization and show that a movement of ordinary people giving only what they can afford is changing the way presidential campaigns are funded.

Now is the perfect time to step up and own a piece of this campaign. And if you make your first donation right now, you'll receive a special gift.

Make a donation of $15 or more by midnight on Monday, June 30th, and show off your support with an Obama logo car magnet.

I HATE apartment hunting in Vancouver. I just want to hire someone to do the hunting for me, sadly one generally doesn't hire someone to find something that's worth less than $900/mo.

Movies!

I've been watching heaps of movies lately to sate my boredom. So now it's time to write non-spoiler reviews.

The Other Boleyn Girl - A look into the Boleyn Family and the intrigue surrounding Henry the VIII's second wife, Anne Boleyn. Pros: Natalie Portman, Beautiful Costumes, HORSIES, moderately interesting intrigue. Cons: Acting is sub-par all around, incredibly inaccurate. I expect most historical movies to stretch the truth and make up a fair amount. However, the movie would just make up random things that in no way affected the plot. It seemed like a 10th grader's history report based off of internet data. Also, what was with the Latin at the end? Was there a point to that? C

Stay - A psychiatrist tries to save his patient, and discovers that reality is not as solid as he thought. I really liked this movie, just enough artiness with just enough mind fuck, plus Ewan McGregor. Beautifully shot and a fantastic score. Pay attention to the details in this movie, they mean everything, and it was incredible fun to guess and see. Really a movie I'd like to see a couple times. Might just be I'm a sucker for Ewan McGregor though :D A-

V for Vendetta - Visually a fun movie, and on it's own not too bad, though not too good either. As a "based on", it sucked balls at respecting its source material. I wouldn't praise the comic as the best piece of art ever, but it had charm. The cast was fantastic and I generally enjoyed my time. That is, until it came to explaining the history of the V universe. I'm not only burned out on the BUSH DESTROYS THE WORLD EVERYONE, HAR HAR HAR, but I think it Really dates the movie in a totally unnecessary way. They took what could have been your classic anti-totalitarianism movie and turned it into an agenda pusher. Not a fan. That said, I did have a decent time watching this. B

Charlie Wilson's War Ohhhh Aaron Sorkin, I've been saving this movie for when I went into total withdraw, and that time has finally come. I don't really know what to write about this movie other than that I loved it. It had wit, charm and relevance while not being preachy or over the top. I liked how human each character was, everyone had flaws. More movies need to embrace that. Though no movies need to have a blond Julia Roberts. They especially should not have a blond Julia Roberts with a close up on her crazy mouth in a makeup mirror. /shudder A

I also watched all of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, which will be starting on Showtime this Monday. It's a lot of fun, basically a combination of Cathouse, Sex and the City and Alias. Funny, kinda mindless and sexy. Though it did make me want to be a prostitute when I grow up.

Thanks to [info]indilime I'm spending money before noon. She's a witch, burn her!

There's a threadless sale going on, so I hmm-ed and haw-ed over all the pretties (which I originally typo-ed as priests, what does that say about me?)

I got this which I have been oogling since it was on the voting page.
This, which is just gorgeous and everyone should own.
This, which isn't one of my "omg I NEED this shirt" kind of shirts, but it strikes a certain fancy, I kinda wish I had went for the optimist/pessimest shirt instead, but this one is just pretty. Oh shoppers remorse!
Aaaand this, which needs no explanation.

I still want the Miss Scarlet shirt, grenade kittens, blue-footed boobies and Adultery shirts, but they're always sold out of my size and the men's sizes that would fit me.

Shopping aside, last night I dreamed about having various non-sexual, but not necessarily non-platonic relations with various men that I would not actually* have relations with. They were: Will Smith (but the bitch went back to Jada Pinkett), Mah Ferst Boifrund, [info]np_radical only he was Chinese with massively long hair that my dad shaved off, Stephen Colbert (<3) and John Dorian (not zac braff). I also dreamed I stole all of [info]atelerix's underwear to build a fort.

*Except for Stephen, oh stephen...

Two days off of work and I've already screwed up my sleep schedule, damn drowsy allergy meds.

Been indulging in lots of Gilmore Girls to fend off total panic over all the stuff that needs to get done before we go. On the plus side I have most of the official work out of the way, though still need to do change of address forms and try to cut costs on our cell phone plans.

Not really sure why I'm posting, my head is just very full right now. I pulled out my sketchbook again last night, for the first time in god knows how long. I'm not as rusty as I thought I would be. It's very bittersweet though, the last thing I need is another foray into Regretsville.

I finished Kafka on the Shore by Murakami the other day. I wanted to write a review, but I'm a terrible expository writer, just awful. Basic plotline is an Eastern take on the Oedipus story, so a story of self-discovery, fate, and how someone becomes who they are. The odd chapters center around a teenage runaway's search for belonging (maybe anyway) through very purposeful choices; the even chapters cover an old man's spontaneous and purposeless journey across Japan. The two plotlines relate, but never converge. It was really interesting and just fun to read a story with no clear resolutions whatsoever. Everything is a riddle and part of a puzzle, but the book finishes with you just figuring out what the puzzle is of, rather than completing it. My biggest problem with Murakami is that every book has an early conflict point that is so incredibly disturbing and graphic that it just ruins my entire day. Kafka was no different, probably worse than some of his others, but was thankfully skimmable.

heh, I should stop being allowed on the internet while high, editing out random stupid babbles and replacing with different stupid babbles.  I do, however, stand by my statement that Bradly Cooper  needs to stop molesting me with his eyes, it's rude!   Anyway, bsg this week was ...jeez.  Intense.

In other news, up close looks at eyes really weird me out, it's almost a gross out thing, but not quite.

Aaand deleting the comment trees here, because I annoy myself.

P.S. Any madisonians have a giant scanner I can abduct from you?  I'd really like to scan my portfolio and since most of my work is 18x24 or larger, my standard just won't work, I really don't want to be doing patchworks.

Your Mom
Every few months I get really bitchy, insanely emotional and crazy for a couple days.  There is never any doubt in my mind that I'm acting rationally.  Aaaaand then I get my period and have this "Ohhhhh, so That's why" moment.

This month, panic attack/fit throwing of Epic proportions over a spider in the bed.  I was half concerned/half hoping the landlords would come down I was making such a fuss.  Next afternoon?  Why hello period!  And it's about damn time too, four months inbetween this time.  One month is nice, two is cool, three you start wishing it would come so you could drop the mass water weight, and four becomes a wee touch of crazy land.

Also, I do not cut period talk, suck it wusses.

4/16 Debates

Sith is Stuck // SW

The winner of the ABC "debate"? John McCain. The Loser? It's a tie between ABC and the American public.

American's tuned in to see a debate between esteemed Presidential candidates discuss how they would best serve this country. Instead we were served condescending and inane helpings of old news, non-news and the most unprofessional moderation I have ever seen. This is a Presidential Debate, not the Jerry Springer show.

Tom Shale's article in the Washington Post gives a wonderful breakdown of this mockery of a debate.   Small excerpt to give those who missed it a taste of the tone the moderators brought to the debate.

Gibson sat there peering down at the candidates over glasses perched on the end of his nose, looking prosecutorial and at times portraying himself as a spokesman for the working class. Blunderingly he addressed an early question, about whether each would be willing to serve as the other's running mate, "to both of you," which is simple ineptitude or bad manners. It was his job to indicate which candidate should answer first. When, understandably, both waited politely for the other to talk, Gibson said snidely, "Don't all speak at once."

I, for one, was a Hillary supporter.  I came into the debate excited to see wh
at she had to say after the break between debates and was hoping for some relevant conversations on real issues.  What I saw was such extreme bias to Clinton, with the moderators actually giving time to Hillary to answer the question if Obama should realize he offended people with his comments.  She then went on to attempt to not only keep up this guilty-by-association mindset, but also tried to tie Obama to Hamas with the following quote:

"As leaders we have a choice of who we associate with, and who we apparently give some kind of seal of approval to. And I think that it wasn't only the specific remarks, but the relationship with Rev. Farrakhan, with giving the church bulleting over to the leader of Hamas to put a message in. These are problems, and they raise questions in people's minds. This is a legitimate area, as everything is when we run for office, for people to be exploring, and trying to find answers."

I'm actually considering writing letters to both of the candidates, apologizing to Obama for my vote for Hillary and a letter of disgust to Mrs. Clinton.  This is Rush Limbaugh level politics and I expect my candidate to be above that.  Defending one's self against swift-boating is one thing, this is something totally different.  While I was impressed with most of her response about agreements of protection for the MidEast against Nuclear threats from Iran, my pleasure is completely outweighed by my disgust.

If this kind of political discourse is what an average-joe wants to see in a candidate, I sure as hell want an elite candidate.  Last I checked, elite meant something good, something to aspire towards.  Since when should someone have to justify their Harvard Education by relating themselves to a nitwit, who changes their vote based on the type of lapel pin a candidate wears?  Having elite join the ranks of liberal as a vilified term is absurd.

I'd love to see a real debate between these two before it's over, one that talks about the issues, takes the high road and doesn't replace Karl Rove's think-tank.  When that happens give me a call, I'll be busy taking a gander back at some of the other out of touch, elitist jerks out there.

The lovely [info]tigerwolf07 is a student at the UW, and a friend of mine, who needs to run an experiment successfully in order to declare herself a psych major. She needs volunteers, and I figured I have some Madison people on my friends list who she doesn't have, and some of you might be willing to help out.

The experiment is about memory and you must meet these requirements: Not be Blind, be able to feel things with your hand(s) and comfortable wearing a blindfold in the presence of a female.

She needs 14 more volunteers and the time of the experiment will take about 30 minutes.

If you're interested, email her at tigerwolfmagick07@yahoo.com.

This week (April 14th-April 20th), she's am available:
Tue., April 15th: 3pm-11pm
Wed., April 16th: 5:30pm-11pm
Thu., April 17th: 4pm-11pm
Fri., April 18th: 2pm-11pm (this one may change)
Sun., April 20th: all day
